This collection comes from the files of Harvey Seeley Mudd and is divided into three separate sections. The first consists of correspondence dealing with the history of the Alexander and Brooklyn Mines from 1921 to 1944 and covers the following subjects: leasing of the property, difficulties in mining the sulphide ore, status reports on the mines from L. W. (L. Webster) Wickes, the strained partnership of the Mudds with William J. Webster, and the unwatering of the Mitchell mining shaft to explore for ore. The next section contains correspondence that deals with the purchase of the Alexander and Brooklyn Mines by the Coronado Copper and Zinc Company and the last section consists of assays and smelter returns from the Alexander and Brooklyn Mines.

Alexander and Brooklyn mines, (also known as the Silver Palace Mines, Old Grantsville Mine, or Webster Mines), are located in the Union Mining District of Nye County, Nevada south of Ione. P. A. Haven discovered gold in the Union District in 1863, and the city of Ione and camp of Grantsville were established that same year.
